In vitro activity of bedaquiline against rapidly growing nontuberculous mycobacteria
Bedaquiline (BDQ) has been proven to be effective in the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. We hypothesized that BDQ could be a potential agent to treat nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infection. The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro activity of BDQ against rapidly growing mycobacteria by assessing the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bacteric...
متن کاملLung disease caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Although the incidence of tuberculosis has reduced in developed countries, there is a growing interest in nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) as a cause of lung disease. However, NTM are a heterogeneous group and most of the data come from only three species: Mycobacterium avium complex, Mycobacterium kansasii and Mycobacterium abscessus. Still, information about these three spe...
متن کاملInvasive Disease Caused by Nontuberculous Mycobacteria, Tanzania
Data on nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease in sub-Saharan Africa are limited. During 2006-2008, we identified 3 HIV-infected patients in northern Tanzania who had invasive NTM; 2 were infected with "Mycobacterium sherrisii" and 1 with M. avium complex sequevar MAC-D. Invasive NTM disease is present in HIV-infected patients in sub-Saharan Africa.

متن کاملPulmonary infection caused by an unusual, slowly growing nontuberculous Mycobacterium.
Mycobacterium triplex, a recently described slowly growing nontuberculous mycobacterium, was isolated from a Finnish patient with pulmonary mycobacteriosis. The disease was successfully treated with antimycobacterial drugs. The strain isolated, which was similar to the type strain but differed slightly from the species description, was regarded as a variant of M. triplex sensu stricto. Accordin...
